Marcela Fernandez Violante, a feature writer from Mexico, spoke on behalf of her guild. She told us television writers in Mexico are not covered by any union. The Sección de Autores y Adaptadores de Cine (STPC) only covers film writers. Although the telenovela is enormously popular, the writers have none of the protections that a guild provides.
