…but only after my last meeting.

Mike McPhaden sent me the following words which I think are a fitting end to the festival:

Hey Jill,

As Banff draws to a close, here’s some parting wisdom to TV writers everywhere from the hyper-articulate Craig Wright, creator & EP of Dirty Sexy Money. This is from memory and a few hasty notes made during our special session with him, so I hesitate to put it into direct quotes:

Why write scripts you’re not one hundred percent invested in? Why turn in scripts that have nothing irreplaceable? What are you waiting for, your own show? Your life is REAL – it’s really happening to you, so use the show you’re on today to talk about your life. Put your guts into it. Write stuff that you’re so invested in, you’ll want to quit if your boss changes it.

(And presumably he’d also advise not really quitting when s/he changes it anyway.)

Later,

Mike

I think I’ll go look at the mountains one last time before bed.
