Blurring Lines

Starting Tuesday September 9th, TNT is running Blank Slate, a micro series in commercial breaks during Law and Order.  Blank Slate isn’t just a television property.  It will also be available on TNT.tv.  So, it’s a web series and a TV series and one more thing…  an extended car commercial.  Blank Slate was commissioned as part of the Acura TSX advertising campaign.

The premise?  A woman has the memories of murder victims implanted in her brain so she can help solve the crimes. The two minute episodes star Lisa Brenner and Eric Stoltz and were written by John Harrison.

TNT’s last micro series was Lucky Chance, in which the 2009 Dodge Challenger got a credit below the title.  It was laughably bad. And furthermore it won’t embed, so go watch it here or here and laugh.

Reminds me of the series of web mini-movies BMW commissioned from A-List directors like Frankenheimer several years ago - except those were better because the “story” was about the car and not just some thin excuse of a plot line they could drive through.

Hmmm…I once wrote an Outer Limits entitled ‘Blank Slate’ about a guy whose memories were erased and he had to rediscover who and what he really was as he injected his memories back into himself in bits and pieces (turned out he was the baddie and had erased his own memories to try to stop himself…doh!)…. this series sounds better.

There’s also another online series called “Blankslate” at a site called Its All In Your Hands.tv. Again, a guy wakes up with no memories and blood on his hands, and goes searching for his identity, in a kind of a ‘choose your own adventure’ thingee.

I like your Outer Limits, Will. But it’s got that surprise ending that lends itself to a one-of not an entire series premise.

I’ve read some more about this Blank Slate. It seems to be a movie length drama that will be delivered in 2 or 4 minute episodes (depending on which web site you believe). The schedule is incredibly complicated with several episodes delivered in the middle of each episode of Law and Order. So, you have to follow the storyline of Blank Slate, while you’re watching your episode of L&O (don’t touch that remote) and then figure out when Law and Order is on next time to catch the next bunch of episodes. Way to make it as difficult for viewers to follow as possible.
