Would you sign up and pay into the micropayment program just so you could “tip” creators?

Probably never. I have a PayPal account and would probably use that over any single use service.
Unless it was a ubiquitous company like Google, Facebook or Twitter I couldn’t see myself going to the trouble of remembering another password or risking the possibility of paying money to a service that I might forget.
It’s hard to say. I’d like to think I’d use a service like Flattr. It makes a lot of sense. I guess it depends how easy it is to set up an account. I don’t have a credit card for example. I wonder if Flattr caters for folks like me?
When I first saw this my reaction was:
“It’s about fucking time!”
But then I realized - it will only work if enough people agree to play.
Like the only reason our current economy works (sorta - kinda - maybe - well, okay, that’s fucked too) is because everyone agrees that the *metaphor of money* has value. When that dissolves we’re all screwed.
This new system - one amongst many - is an attempt to derive some kind of universal acceptance of value and consequently provide the means of expressing it. It WILL work - but only if everyone (or enough people) agree to play.
Eventually such a system of micropayments will exist - and work. It’s been around in theory for a long time. A large number of players have attempted (and failed) to create and manage a working model of such a system.
I like the ideas behind this one - and I like conceptually how they are implementing it.
For it to REALLY work - Google has to buy it.
cheers
I like the idea, but I can’t see myself buying into it as a way to spread my money to creators. I’d want to pay them directly if I wanted to pay them at all.
I wish I thought this was going to work, but I don’t.
